Day Game (Cloudy, 62°) (23,335)
This was not a surprise win for the Cougars, even though the Miners had upset San Diego State earlier in the season.
BYU scored in every quarter, while holding the Miners scoreless.
Offensively and defensively, said Coach Edwards, it was one of the Cougars' best performances of the year.
BYU gave up only 163 total yards defensively, while accounting for 383 yards on offense.
Quarterback Jim McMahon had 205 yards total offense, and fullback Bill Ring rushed for 83 yards.
One of the touchdowns came on a pass interception by freshman Marv Allen, who returned the ball 25 yards for a score.
Said UTEP's Bill Michael after the game, "Their defense just smothered us all afternoon."
The Cougars scheduled a bye for the following weekend (the 28th).
BYU now 5-2.
