Statislically, the Cougars and Rebels fought an even battle in every category except the score in the season finale.
BYU, who was able to increase its win streak to 11 games, unleashed its record-setting offense for two touchdowns in each quarter, totaling 54 points.
Once again it was Jim McMahon leading the way for the Cougars.
The junior All-American completed 21 passes for 338 yards-his 11th consecutive plus-300-yard outing.
Among his scoring feats were five touchdown passes and two TO gallops.
McMahon's first scoring taunt of 11 yards capped the Cougars' first drive of 71 yards and set the tone of the game.
Later in the first quarter McMahon hit Matt Braga on a 21-yard strike to put the Cougars ahead 14-0.
Before half time, McMahon clicked with Dan Plater and Scott Phillips on passes of 32 and 2 yards.
UNLV was first to score in the second half when Larry Gentry ran in from the two.
In the remainder of the game, McMahon threw scoring passes to Eric Lane (23 yards), and Scott Phillips (10 yards) and ran two yards for another six-pointer.
Scott Pettis also joined the scoring ranks with a 19-yard gallop in the last quarter.
In total offense, BYU amassed 509 yards while averaging 7.5 yards per play.
Scott Phillips was another offensive star for the Cougars, picking up 151 yards on four rushes and eight pass receptions.
BYU now 11-1.
