Largest crowd ever to witness a sporting event in the state of Utah watched the Utes grab a 7-0 lead on the first play from scrimmage from an 87-yard run by Del Rogers.

BYU right end Gordon Hudson broke an NCAA record in this game with 259 yards receiving in addition to 13 catches for two touchdowns.

Statistically, this was Jim McMahon's most perfect game with a career high 565 yards passing, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

BYU locked up the WAC title and the Beehive Boot in this contest to finish 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

BYU ranked 12th UPland 14th AP.
