In the last home game of the season, BYU soundly defeated San Diego State for the fourth-straight year on either regional or national television.
BYU was first to get on the scoreboard, when San Diego State fumbled on its first play of the game.
The Cougars continued to score in the first half to up the score to 35-0.
The Aztecs did not get on the scoreboard until late in the third quarter.
BYU did not let up their offensive performance in the second half.
Kurt Gunther set another NCAA record for the most career PAT attempts.
Also, the Cougars saw Blane Fowler, now second string quarterback, direct the team on a 70-yard scoring drive.
Steve Young was selected as the Chevrolet MVP of the game and WAC player-of-the-week.
