Before the largest crowd ever for a University of Utah game, BYU, in its second series of plays, drove 80 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Not wanting to be outdone, Utah drove 70 yards for a touchdown, but missed the extra point to make the score 7-6.
In the fourth quarter Utah controlled the ball game. BYU only had possession of the ball for three minutes in the final quarter.
The Cougar's defense held off the Utes as they tried to score in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter.
Several records were set by both teams.
For Utah. Carl Nibrie set a WAC record for the most yards gained rushing in a season.
For BYU, Steve Young tied two NCAA passing records with 11 consecutive games over 200 yards passing and 11 games netting 200 yards in a season.
Cougars finish the regular season with 8-3 record.
