After a big win over the University of Texas-El Paso, the Cougars needed another big win over the league-leading Lobos to stay alive in the Western Athletic Conference race.
The largest crowd to see a football game in New Mexico saw the Lobos take a 12-7 halftime lead.
In the third quarter BYU turned the scoring around. The Cougars scored 33 points in the second half with 26 of them coming in the third-quarter.
BYU also scored on a safety.
Because of his offensive performance (18 of 28, two touchdowns) Steve Young was selected the WAC offensive-player-of-the-week, and linebacker Todd Shell was WAC defensive-playerof-the-week.
BYU now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the WAC.
