San Diego State blitzed a lot, but BYU countered well after falling behind 3-0.

Reserve quarterback Blame Fowler opened BYU's offensive series by taking a Robbie Bosco handoff and tossing a 36-yard completion to Glen Kozlowski ala Piftsburgh.

Lee Johnson's initial 42-yard punt was downed on the Aztec 2-yard line and from then on SDSU faced an uphill battle.

Perhaps the play which broke the game open for BYU offensively was a sideliner 40-yard TD run by Kelly Smith to boost the Cougars' lead to 14-3.

SDSU was held to 165 yards total offense compared to BYU's 478.

Bosco was intercepted twice, but BYU came up with three interceptions against SDSU.

Return specialist Val Sikahema tied a conference record with eight punt returns.

BYU now 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the WAC. In the rankings BYU moved up to third in both polls and was ranked number one by Sports Illustrated.
