Linebacker Marv Allen paced BYU's defense with two interceptions while wide receiver Mark Bellini was the recipient of six Robbie Bosco aerials.
Bosco was BYU's leading rusher with 21 yards.
Cougar return specialist Vai Sikahema opened each half with a spectacular play. Sikahema had an 89-yard punt return for a TD on BYU's initial first half possession and then returned the opening second half kickoff for 65 yards.
It was a penalty-ridden game for the Cougars, with nine flags for 98 yards.
BYU jumped two notches in each poll, fourth in UP and sixth in AP. BYU now 3-0.
