In this hard-hitting game BYU suffered many setbacks; two blocked punts, a Robbie Bosco interception and a knee injury to co-captain Craig Garrick.
BYU's defense, led by safety Kyle Morrell, held on three goal-line stand situations, during the last of which BYU denied four UH attempted touchdown aerials.
Morrell catapulted over BYU and UH lines earlier in a key fourth quarter gamble in which he snagged Rainbow quarterback Raphel Cherry by the shoulder pads to snuff out the third consecutive attempted sneak and forced Hawaii to settle for a field goal.
Offensively, BYU's Glen Kozlowski was a sticky-fingered receiver with nine receptions including a TD catch, while Bosco was limited in his scrambling ability due to a groin pull.
BYU dropped to eighth in both the UP and AP polls. BYU now 4-0.
