Utah scored first in a game that saw the score tied three times at 7-7,14-14 and 21-21.
BYU fullback Lakei Heimuli scored three touchdowns rushing, including the game-winning 83-yard run with seven minutes left in the game. Heimuli scored the final TD on an off-tackle play immediately following linebacker Kurt Gouvela's interception which stopped a Ute drive on the Cougar 16 yardline.
Utah also had some big plays with a second-quarter 100-yard kickoff return by Erroll Tucker and a fourth-quarter flea-flicker lateral which netted a 64-yard TD.
Utah had two TDs called back, one on a punt return and the other on a TD pass, due to penalties.
BYU converted a Ute fumble and a Ute interception into TDs, while Utah didn't force any Cougar fumbles and fumbled after intercepting a BYU pass.
Snow started falling after halftime, and Bosco completed enough passes to secure the NCAA record for completions in a season.
The Florida Citrus Bowl extended its invitation to BYU following the game. BYU now 10-2 overall, 6-1 in the WAC ranked ninth in AP and 10th in UPI.
