It took 192 yards total oflense before BYU scored its first points of the game in the second quarter.
CSU repeatedly dropped eight men into its secondary, so Robbie Bosco had to patiently pick apart the Rams' defense. Bosco did not rush a single play or throw any interceptions and he achieved personal bests in pass completions and percentage to earn WAC oftensive player of the week honors. He left the game with nearly 12 minutes remaining.
Kelly Smith miraculously returned to the BYU offense following a knee injury.
Mark Bellini had three TD catches with Fiesta Bowl observers watching.
Defensively, the Cougars held the WAC's leading rusher, Steve Bartalo to 19 of CSU's 25 yards on the ground.
BYU nearly got a shutout except for a mishandled punt snap. The deepest CSU penetration into BYU territory aside from the punt miscue were two drives which ended on the Cougar 44-yard line.
BYU now 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the WAC, ranked 10th in UPI and 11th in AP.
