With only 119 yards passing for the entire game, it would not seem possible that BYU won the game. But two fumbles, a pass interception and two blocked punts kept the Cougars in a hole most of the afternoon. However, 454 yards rushing enabled BYU to secure an eighth straight victory over Utah.
For the first time in modern history BYU had three rushers net over 100 yards; Lakei Heimuli had 171, Bruce Hansen 149 and Robert Parker 121. Heimuli and Parker scored a pair of TDs, while Hansen scored BYU's fifth.
The Cougars dominated the lines of scrimmage and possession time.
Take away four big plays by Utah, three of which were TD bombs late in the game, and the Utes figures would be less impressive.
BYU now 7-3 overall and 5-1 in WAC play.
