Day game (67 degrees, overcast with rain showers and 15 mph wind) For only the 14th time in BYU history, the Cougars ventured east of the Mississippi River.

Navy scored on its first possession as BYU's defensive corps were confused on signals to stop the option.

Ty Detmer broke Doug Flutie's stadium passing record with 353 yards. Detmer completed 26 of 35 passes and was never sacked.

Matt Bellini scored two touchdowns by land and two by air. Two of Bellini's TDs came in the fourth quarter.

Halftime was extended 10 minutes due to a power outage with BYU holding a narrow, 14-10, lead. The Midshipmen had zero penalty yards. The game was shown via closed circuit television to 6,000 fans in the Marriott Center.
