Sept. 7, 1991--night game (68°, light haze) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA (61,542)

After an intercepted pass, Tommy Maddox threw to Sean LaChapelle and BYU answered with a 37-yard field goal.

UCLA took a 14-3 lead late in the first quarter when Ricky Davis scooted seven yards.

BYU scored again when Peter Tuipulotu crashed through the Bruin defense on a one-yard run.

The Bruins went into the locker room with a 20-10 lead but the tables turned in the third quarter after Ervin Lee intercepted a pass and returned it to the Bruins' 21-yard line. Two plays later Detmer found Bryce Doman for a 19-yard scoring strike.

Late in the third quarter, Eric Drage pulled in a two-yard scoring toss from Detmer for a 23-20 BYU lead.

But early in the fourth quarter UCLA scored on a one-yard run by Kevin Williams and two fourth-quarter BYU drives stalled on fourth down plays. BYU is now 0-2.
