Nov. 14, 1992--day game (partly cloudy and slight southeast wind, 52°) at Falcon Stadium, Colorado Springs, Colo. (37,113).
BYU thwarts the Air Force attack with Cougar Todd Herget leading the defensive corps. Herget earns Western Athletic Conference "Player of the Week" honors with nine total tackles, including two tackles-for-a-loss, one forced fumble and two sacks.
BYU's first score, a back of the end zone catch by Eric Drage, sets three different records:
BYU's 46th consecutive game with a touchdown reception, BYU's 222nd consecutive game without being shut out (NCAA best), and Drage's 23rd straight game with a catch.
In the second quarter, Jamal Willis breaks for an 80-yard touchdown, the longest rush from the line of scrimmage of the season.
The Falcons peck away at the Cougar defense for seven minutes, arriving at the BYU two-yard line--only to fumble. But an apparent BYU recovery is overruled and Air Force scores on the next play.
BYU's third touchdown drive is helped by an interference call and Willis runs for 27 yards.
Derwin Gray makes his fifth interception of the year with six minutes remaining in the game. Steve Christensen registers his first touchdown.
BYU is now 7-4.
